A New Revelation
Today i went to church just like any other sundays, except i was slightly late. When i walked into Expo Hall 8, praise and worship had started. I walked down the centre aisle and wow, did i feel the awesome presence of God....the crowd filled with passion for God, singing and dancing away, the feeling i had, the atmosphere i experienced, its simply wonderful. It once again affirms my decision - this is the best church (to me) in Singapore! The singing calms me, gives me peace and joy despite my stressfulness and tiredness accumulated from the week.
Today was lesson 10 of a series of 14 lessons of the marriage seminar that Pastor was preaching. I felt so touched by the message and felt that i learnt a lot thus far.
Today's message lead me to be reminded of what's written about love in the bible:
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Isn't this definition of Love very true? Its really all encompassing. It just reminds me that whenever we have problems in relationships with people (may be friends, family, colleagues or partner), we should always go back to this definition - when we say we love, cherish and care for the people in our lives - are we living up to our love for them?
Next, today we learnt about the wedding vow:
"I take you to be my wedded husband/wife,
to have and to hold from this day forward,
for better or worse, for richer or poorer,
in sickness and in health,
to love and to cherish and to obey,
as long as we both live,
according to God's holy ordinance;
and thereto I give you my love."
I feel so emotional and touched just reading this vow. It makes me realised that the day you are ready to say this to someone, you know you really love the person and are definitely ready for marriage.
The greatest revelation for me, was when Pastor shared that when you make a committment in marriage, it means that there is no way for divorce to happen.
He made an example, saying that even if unfaithfulness is involved, you still have to standby the marriage, even if the person doesn't love you anymore, you still standby and be committed and pray for a miracle.
In the past, i used to think this is ridiculous and impossible. I used to think that if i hear of any unfaithful partners, i would think the other party has a right to divorce and should divorce. But Pastor shared of God's unconditional love for us, that even when we backslide, God never turns us away when we come back to HIM.
I thought of a couple I once knew, where the guy was unfaithful and the gal didn't divorce though everyone around her tells her to do so. She just prayed and prayed, forgave her husband, change herself in ways the husband was picky about her and years later, she won her husband's heart all over again and they now have a happy marriage. Looking back, I admire her for her committment and courage. Indeed, with God, All things are possible! Amen!
(of course, i pray i will never have to face with unfaithfulness in my relationships - cos its easier said than done to handle such situations!)
